Prepaid-card platform handling 1,000+ transactions a month — Node.js case study

For a fintech company I worked on three production products in Node.js and React. The biggest was a prepaid-card platform, along with the automation that keeps its cards and balances in sync.

The problem

A prepaid-card business runs on a lot of repetitive, error-sensitive operations: creating cards, loading balances, processing orders and making sure the numbers match. Done by hand, that work is slow, and every mistake involves someone’s money.

The company needed software that handled the full card lifecycle, from order to balance, and automation that took routine card operations off the team’s plate.

What I built

Automate reconciliation, not just entry

Creating a card is one step. Keeping every card and balance correct over time is the expensive part. The automation covered create, update and reconcile, cutting manual processing time by about 70%.

One stack across products

The products shared Node.js (Adonis.js), React and MySQL, which kept patterns, tooling and deployment consistent across them.

Challenges and how they were solved

Correctness when money is involved

In a payments product, “mostly right” isn’t good enough. Reconciliation is the safety net: automated checks that cards and balances match what they should be, so problems surface quickly instead of at month end.
